Elon Musk, the co-founder of OpenAI, has filed a lawsuit against the company and its CEO, Sam Altman, alleging that OpenAI has deviated from its original nonprofit mission. However, the staff at OpenAI disputes Musk's claims, stating that they do not reflect the reality of their work or mission.

In an internal memo sent by OpenAI's chief strategy officer, Jason Kwon, it is stated that Musk's allegations are unfounded. Kwon downplays the capabilities of OpenAI's GPT-4 system, stating that it is only capable of solving small tasks and cannot devise novel solutions to longstanding challenges.

The lawsuit has raised some complicated issues. Firstly, Musk is a competitor to OpenAI through his involvement with xAI and Tesla. Secondly, OpenAI's defense of Musk's lawsuit, which claims without evidence that they have built an AGI (Artificial General Intelligence), could require them to prove that they haven't reached AGI, despite their hints that they have or are close.

AI researcher Gary Marcus, who previously supported Musk's lawsuit, believes that the world would be better off if OpenAI returned to its original nonprofit mission.

India Implements Advisory for Tech and AI Companies

The Ministry of Electronics and IT in India has issued an advisory to AI firms, requiring significant companies to obtain government approval before launching new systems. The advisory aims to prevent untested AI platforms from deploying on the Indian internet.

Rajeev Chandrasekhar, India's IT Deputy Minister, clarified that the advisory is not mandatory regulation but rather a signal of the future of regulation. He stated that it applies only to larger platforms and not startups. The advisory also emphasizes the need for AI models to be unbiased, non-discriminatory, and not a threat to the integrity of the electoral process.

Apple Faces Antitrust Fine from European Commission

Apple has been fined nearly $2 billion by the European Commission in response to a complaint filed by music streamer Spotify in 2019. The European Commission found that Apple's conduct in the App Store was unfairly restrictive towards competing music streaming apps.

Margrethe Vestager, the executive vice president in charge of competition policy, stated that Apple had abused its dominant position in the market for the distribution of music streaming apps.

Apple plans to appeal the decision and released a statement claiming that Spotify is seeking to rewrite the rules of the App Store to further advantage itself. Apple highlighted Spotify's dominant market share in Europe and the fact that it currently pays Apple nothing for the services provided through the App Store.

New MacBooks Feature Advanced M3 Chip

Apple has introduced its latest MacBook Air models, featuring the advanced 3-nanometer M3 chip. The 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Air now offer significantly faster performance compared to Intel Macs and even the previous M1 Macs.

The M3 chip, with its 16-core neural engine, is especially proficient in handling AI and machine learning tasks. The new MacBooks retain their modern design, come in four colors, offer multiple ports, and boast up to 18 hours of battery life.

Another Copyright Lawsuit Involving AI

A screenwriter who worked on the 1989 film "Road House" has filed a copyright infringement lawsuit against Amazon Studios. The lawsuit claims that the screenwriter filed a petition to reclaim his copyright ownership over the original script, coinciding with Amazon's plans to remake the film.

The lawsuit further alleges that Amazon used AI to recreate actors' voices during a strike by the Screen Actor's Guild in order to meet a deadline before the copyright reverted to the screenwriter. Amazon has denied the allegations, stating that the film does not use AI in place of actors' voices and that the claims are without merit.
